Hotel Details

Factor in Wi-Fi, smart rates and a central locale just west of downtown, and Howard Johnson Inn Athens seems to mean solid value for our guests. Between the A-frame entrance and the bright orange roof that is so HOJO, you can't miss this retro-style, upgraded property. Offering a two-floor, interior-corridor arrangement, the hotel is home to 100 rooms with natural light that comes from sliding glass doors leading to private balconies or patios. The fact that rooms are equipped with Wi-Fi, microwaves, fridges and cable with HBO and pay-per-view is a huge plus. About a 10-minute drive west of downtown Athens and the University of Georgia, the hotel sits right on Broad St./Hwy. 78, an ultra-handy retail-restaurant drag. The major mall in town, Georgia Square Mall, is also a 10-minute drive. If you're looking to knock off landmarks from your bucket list, check out one of two remaining double-barreled cannons produced during the American Civil War in front of Athens City Hall in downtown, or visit The Tree That Owns Itself on the corner of Dearing and Finley Streets. Both attractions are within a 10-minute ride. Athens-Ben Epp Airport is about seven miles. Without dishing out too much dough, our guests find a "pretty good" deal at Howard Johnson Inn Athens, located west of downtown on retail-restaurant row.
