Built next door to the Alamo in 1859, the Menger has hosted guests such as Teddy Roosevelt, Oscar Wilde, Babe Ruth and other figures of history. Along with modern updates to the hotel, guests find the original neoclassical Victorian Lobby, fine antiques and artwork, the bountiful courtyard garden, historic photographs, and a guest registry dating from a century ago. The cattle-trading guests of the Victorian era have changed to vacationers and business travelers today.
The Menger offers complimentary high speed wireless internet. Business center is also available for a nominal fee. A secluded courtyard surrounds a large pool, shaded by palm trees. The pool area has plenty of chaise lounges and tables with umbrellas. A fitness center with cardio equipment and a TV overlooks the pool area. Guests can enjoy a nightcap at the Menger Bar, built in 1887 as a replica of London’s House of Lords Pub.
